The card
Long off the back, sensible off the gold.
This is the course a society books when it wants a proper test. The trick is choosing the right tee before pride chooses it for you.
Note the tee colours: Montgomerie uses Silver and Gold where most Belek clubs use white and yellow.
The mistake societies make here
The name on the gate is a Ryder Cup captain’s, so groups reach for the back tees. Six and a half thousand metres with fifty-four bunkers is a long afternoon for a twenty-handicapper, and the pace of play behind you suffers.
Play the gold. The course is still the course, and everyone gets in for the prize-giving.
Hole by hole
The whole card, from the club.
Four sets of tees, eighteen holes. The back nine is the floodlit one, so if your society is playing an evening nine this is the half it plays.
What the card shows
Four par fives and four par threes. The fifth is the longest short hole on the card at 205 m off the black and only 88 m off the red, a 117-metre spread on one hole, the widest on the course. Off the gold it is 154 m, which is the number to quote when a society asks what the signature hole plays.
The course
Forty hectares of grass inside a hundred and four of pine.

Sand, not length
Fifty-four bunkers against Cullinan Links’ hundred and nineteen sounds modest until you see where they are. This is a course that punishes the wrong side of the fairway, not the short hitter.
Floodlit 10 to 18
The back nine plays under lights. For a group landing at lunchtime that is a full nine on arrival day, and in November it is the difference between finishing and walking in from the fourteenth.
A Tour venue
The course has hosted European Tour golf, which matters to the kind of society that wants one round on the trip to feel like an occasion. Put it in the middle of the week, not the first morning.
